Granite Steps, Camden Hills State Park, Camden, Maine (43933)

The Civilian Conservation Corps did a lot of work in Camden Hills State Park during the Great Depression. My father, then a young man, worked here as part of the CCC. Much later when he was in his mid-60s, he brought me here to poke around, see what he could remember. When he saw the steps, a flood of memories came back to him. He had worked on these steps. Good work, Dad. Eight decades later, the granite steps are still in place!

This lobster trap washed ashore, and in the time before a state agency came to retrieve the trap (they return them to their owners), hikers used it to hold trash from the shore. The scene makes you stop and think about all the litter that makes its way onto the ocean.
